Masculine Virtue

Written by Josh Kouri
Frontline Founding Pastor

In January 2023, we hosted our Masculine Virtue event, followed by a three-week sermon series by the same name. In a day and age filled with gender wars, excessive nuance, and a war on healthy, masculine leaders, the men of Frontline were called to return to the biblical call in 1 Corinthians 16 to "be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love."

Frontline has many faithful men who have been tilling the ground of biblical masculinity for years, and we have many men who are just beginning to ask the question, "What does it mean to be a Godly man?" A year removed from our event, there is still work to be done, and this side of heaven there will always be. Yet, we will continue to hold fast to the values God gives us in Scripture. We want to continue to be watchful and stand firm—as guardians of the spaces God has called us to, not tossed about by the winds of our culture, and as non-anxious presences in the world. We want to act like men and be strong—courageous through costly sacrifice for the benefit of others. And we want to let all we do be done in love—our actions, words, thoughts, and hearts to be saturated with the confidence and tenderness of Jesus, even when it's at great risk to ourselves.

As a church, we are committed to being Gender-Redeeming. Said another way, we are committed to deepening our understanding, love, and fidelity to bless and to be men and women as God designed us to be. Let this be a moment where we return to our first love, Jesus, and ask him to continue to reveal to us how we might dutifully take up arms as men in his Kingdom. Let this be a moment as our women venture into their own work, where we hold fast—protecting, loving, and paving the way for their flourishing. Let this be a moment where we go to battle for our church in prayer. Let this be a moment where we delight that God made us men and, with gratitude, practice mature masculinity with one another. We're not done. The trumpet still sounds, and we have what it takes in Christ to keep going till he returns or calls us home.
