First Steps

(1) Carefully read over the entire Leadership Development Course syllabus.

(2) Select and order one of these three books by Ed Welch:

• A Small Book about a Big Problem: Meditations on Anger, Patience, and Peace

• A Small Book for the Anxious Heart: Meditations on Fear, Worry, and Trust

• A Small Book about Why We Hide: How Jesus Rescues Us from Insecurity, Regret, Failure, and Shame

(3) Prepare for your development group kick-off dinner on Sunday, August 14th:

• Both development group leaders and participants should listen to “Aiming for the Heart,” and read two one-page guides entitled: “A Guide for Sharing Life Stories” and “A Guide to Facilitating Prayer.”

• After reading “A Guide for Sharing Life Stories” write down notes for your personal story and be prepared to share on August 14th.

(4) Attend kick-off development group kick-off dinner on Sunday, August 14th.

(5) Complete first round of readings and online reflection by end of day, Friday, August 26th:

• Read Emotionally Healthy Leader (Intro. through Chapter 2, p. 11–80)

• Read Concise Theology (chapters 30–36, p. 95–113)

• Read Days 1 through 15 of your chosen Ed Welch book (books are broken down into 50 daily one to two page readings)

• After completing the reading, fill out the online monthly reflection. Upon submission, you will receive a copy in your email, and a copy will be auto-delivered to Brandon Hey as well as both of your development group leaders.

Description and Vision

The heart and vision behind the Leadership Development Course (LDC) is a desire to see the collective leadership participation and leadership culture grow in our church. This course is designed to help you take steps of growth as a disciple in the mission of Jesus. You will be challenged to grow through reading, writing reflections, prayer, and community with others in the course.

Dates and Commitments

Five Training Dates

1. Sunday, August 14th, 5:00p—8:00p
       > Development Group Dinner and Story Night

2. Sunday, August 28th, 4:00p—6:00p
       > Large Group Gathering & Development Group

3. Sunday, September 25th, 4:00p—6:00p
       > Large Group Gathering & Development Group

4. Sunday, October 23rd, 4:00p—6:00p
       > Large Group Gathering & Development Group

5. Sunday, November 20th, 4:00p—6:00p
       > Large Group Gathering & Development Group

The Development Group dinners will be hosted in the home of either development group leaders or a member of the development group. Large-Group Gatherings will be held at Frontline Edmond. Development groups will break out throughout the building following a time of corporate teaching.

Development Groups

Each participant will be placed in a development group for the duration of the course for further processing, discussion, and prayer. Each development group will have a total of five meetings with development group members and leaders.

Childcare

Childcare will be provided for the four large-group gatherings, but will not be provided for the development group kick-off dinners on Sunday, August 14th.
