Advent: Day Twenty-Four

Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war. His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on his head are many diadems, and he has a name written that no one knows but himself. He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called is The Word of God. And the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, were following him on white horses. From his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron. He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty. On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords. – Revelation 19:11-16

Tomorrow, our Advent posting comes to a close, but that will not stop our longing for our Savior. We await not His birth, but His return. Just as God promised long ago He would send a Savior and King, so now He has promised He will once again send our Savior back to us. After Jesus died and rose again, He ascended into heaven and promised to return to set all things right.

When Christ comes again, it will not be as a baby in swaddling cloths. It will be as a victorious King. He is coming again as the King of kings and Lord of lords. He will bring about a new heavens and a new Earth.

And this time, when He comes, He will never go away.

This is what we wait for: “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be His people, and God Himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” We once again long for our Savior. Amen. Come quickly, Lord Jesus!

Meditate: What will it be like when Jesus returns? Think of seeing Him face to face. On that day, there will be no more death. No more sorrow. Sin will cease. Let your heart lean into the promise of His return and all that He will bring with Him.

Prayer: Father, I pray for my city, that churches will be planted and people will come to trust in Your Son, Jesus. I pray Christ will right the wrongs in my community. My desire is that Your kingdom would have its perfect rule in every crack and corner of my life. Allow my joy and hope to be settled in who You are and what You’ve done. Amen.
